Call it day one. We flew into Athens almost without event. The airline neglected to order vegetarian meals for my daughter Reyla and myself. So, we found ourselves inadvertently trying out the fasting to ameliorate jet lag theory. So far, so good. Except for the really bad cold I now have.
Spent a day doing nothing much on the beach. The temperatures are around 32C. Nice. The hotel pool has a bar. Tomorrow we'll get up early and make the trek to the Acropolis. I might even figure out how to download photos from my camera. If so, there will be photos here. But probably not. I need to be a bit more awake to figure that out!

Hey, Elka, Reyla & Meira!!!!
How are you liking Greece so far?

It's All Greek to Me
Yassas Mici and girls,
Ti-kanis? Well, that's almost my entire Greek vocabulary. Glad I got that out of my system early on in your exciting adventure. Been saving it up for a special occasion, and this, by Jove, is it (appropriate reference?) !
We're very envious of the trip you've got planned, and the way that you're doing it. It sounds like you're off to a great start, too. Hotel bars. Beaches. Good looking men in Speedos. Okay, so you didn't mention that last item, but that usually goes along with the first 2. It's a good thing that you chose to study Greek and not, say, Mongolian. No beaches, no poolside bars. Just oxen and plows and ruddy-skinned Vodka-swilling men in fur earflap hats. (Hope I haven't just pissed-off any of your Mongolian friends).
Mici, for you, going back to Greece is natural, but it must be mind-boggling to the younger Golds among you. The awesome energy of the place combined with the pervasive history literally dripping out of everything. (Example: Kids, see those granite mailboxes over there, they date back to the year 1000 B,C. when all the letters were carved in stone, and hence, there were a lot of pissed off mailmen. (SIdebar: when these guys went postal, it was with catapults and swords and large wooden horses. I believe that the Trojan War occurred at just about the same time as the invention of the advertising flyer, but don't quote me on that.).
Seriously, now, Mici, we're really looking forward to your further blog entries and to sharing the trip with you. Next best thing to being there. Enjoy, and stay safe and healthy! Have a veggie souflaki for me.
