So we left Hanoi for a gruelling 13 hour bus trip to Vientiane. But first we had to cross the Vietnam - Laos border. Our driver was crazy even our tour guide was scared. As Im sure maybe Aunty Gayle and Uncle Rob will know the roads to Laos or from Laos are soooooo windy as you are winding around all the mountains..... As you get towards Laos though the scenery changes and it is so amazingly beautiful ( I really am not exagerting) It is so lush and green and so many mountains........ But anyway the bus trip was so scary as the driver showed no remorse to the corners...... If anyone knows the drive through the black spur think of that but the driver was going really fast! So I was pretty much packing my dacks!! Marcus was trying to reamin calm cool and collected as he does but I could see the fear in his eyes hehe....... We stopped in a town called Pax Xan to have a one night stop in VERY basic accommodation!!! I slept in my silk inner ewwww there was a spider crawling along the bed ahhhhh!!! But it was for one night so no big deal.... We got up in the morning and had I think about 5 hours to Vientiane......
We arrived into Vientiane just efore lunch time. Had a really nice room in the centre of town (mind you it is a very small town) and set off for lunch with the group. I had a lovely chicken, coconut and greater galanga ( comes from the ginger family) soup..... Oh it is up there with one of my favourite meals mmmmmm it was lovely and MArcs had stuffed duck which was amazing..... he thoroughly enjoyed himself :) After lunch we set of to the market and had a walk around town, it is a lovely town and was a shame we only had one afternoon there.....
We went for drinks at the Mekong deck which is a bar looking out over the mekong, it was a lovely setting but marcus stepped in an ants nest and got bitten all over his feet!! He survived though :)
So we ended up having an early night as we had to be up at about 5.30 the next morning to head to Van Vieng!!!! But by bus of course......
