I arrived last night in Nice after a 4 hour layover in Montpelier. Montpelier was beautiful. I had lunch outside on a lovely square and just people-watched for about two hours. I got to Nice around 11 p.m. and took a taxi to my hostel. I didn't want to take any chances, as I know Nice at night can be a little sketchy. After paying 15 euros to go about 5 minutes away, I found that my hostel had to move me their sister hotel down the street. Luckily, the hostel was down a well-lit street with plenty of people and restaurants. I got in with no problem. I'm in a four bed female dorm. It has no bunks, so I'm actually sleeping in a bed. Other amenities include free internet, a terrace, no curfew, 1 minute from the beach, etc.

When I woke up this morning, I was already to go to the beach. I wake up early prepared to get breakfast and find that it's about 50 and raining outside Monaco in the fog...

 . This was quite a change from Barcelona, and not a welcome one at that. I poked around a bit trying to decide what to do. At a patisserie, I asked a lady "What does one do in Nice when it rains?" She told me not to worry, that it's always like this in morning and it soon clears up. She was wrong. It's been overcast all day and I'm pissed. This is my beach holiday. Plus, it's a public holiday in France and everything's closed.

So instead of the beach, I took a train to Monaco to look around, but of course nothing's open, so it's a ghost town. It was pretty even though I couldn't see the tops of the mountains in the fog.

I also tried to get a US to Europe plug adaptor, but again, all the stores are closed. Here's hoping to a better sunny day tomorrow. If not, I will be looking forward to Paris. I have a night train and couchette for Tuesday night. I'll arrive in Paris Wednesday morning.
