It's difficult to describe today without using expletives and hyperbole. Certainly plenty of both were being thrown around the Hyundai all day. We got an early start to allow for plenty of photo stops as we drove up to Stykkisholmur, where we caught a ferry across Breiðafjörður bay. We spotted a puffin, caught a quick glimpse of a whale, and took in gorgeous views all around. We were spit out onto the western fjord, though we may as well have landed on Mars, the landscapes were so foreign and breathtaking. In the failing light, we took in the stunning Dynjandi waterfall, and a harrowing and icy drive through the mountains put us at last in Isafjördur, where we had a lovely dinner and met some men from Reykjavik who absolutely would not believe that we were here on vacation. "You just decided to come to the west fjord?" Yep.
