My host family does not eat chocolate.  And they are Swiss.  Chocolate and Switzerland are two peas on a pod.  BUT I literally have not had even a morsel of chocolate with my homestay family! I have gone to the supermarket and gotten my own...but I was relying on my host family to introduce me to the best of the best! Not only do we not eat chocolate, we never have dessert of any kind.  I am very appreiative of this family and I don't want to whine....but where are the sweets??

In more important news-- things are going well!  I have been here for amost two weeks and I am getting to know people better and everyone is loosening up more!  Friday afternoon myself and four other girls stayed in Geneva for dinner and went to a pizzeria that my homestay siblings had suggested! It was SO amazing. Best pizza ever.  Then we explored the old city area of Geneva for a little bit.  We didn't stay out late because we also made a plan to take a day trip to Montreux on Saturday.

Montreux is a town that is also along the coast of Lake Geneva, just like Nyon, where I am living.  Montreux has absolutely amazing mountain views and a very old, and very beautiful chateau (castle) called Chateau de Chillon.  We arrived in Montreux by 9:45 am and toured the castle!  It was a lot bigger than I expected and we actually spent 1 1/2 hours just walking around the castle. Parts of the castle date as far back as the 11th or 12th century. It was really really beautiful! I am including pictures of Montreux, but they barely do the scenery any justice!

Montreux is also a popular destination because of it's casino. We actually ended up eatting lunch at this casino because the restaurant there was recommended in our guidebook as "least expensive."  and it did end up being a good meal without being too overwhelmingly expensive!

By the time we got home from Montreux, I was exhausted.  I stayed in on Saturday night, did some reading and skyped!  Sunday was pretty dull...I had to write my first proposal for my Independent Study Project which wasn't too bad.

So now we have another week of class!  My French class has downsized even more, so now there are four of us.  Our instructor is very nice and helpful.  I get a little frustrated with myself when someone in Geneva starts speaking to me in French and I can't understand....but I hae only had 4 french classes.  Language barriers are frustrating!  I'm really trying though because I don't want to be the annoying person that just walks around saying "Parlez vous francaise?"  However, I will say, Geneva is an insanely international city packed with people ready and willing to speak English- but I don't want to rely on that.  I want to learn some French while I am here!

This Wednesday we have a briefing with The Red Cross.  I'm excited!

People are already starting to make weekend plans.  A lot of people are planning to travel.  I want to travel as well but I'm not sure if this will be the weekend that I do it.  Laure has invited me to her birthday party!  We are having a fondue dinner Saturday night and then they rented out an ice rink.  She even told me I could bring friends to the ice rink....so cute!

I hope everyone is doing well.  I miss you all!
