The Vans Warped Tour is not something I would have decided to go to on my own, but Michael contacted them last week and they liked his website so much that they gave him a photo pass and he got me in as his assistant. I got a special wristband and everything.

They checked my backpack on the way in, found Michael's mother's umbrella and confiscated it. Because collapsible Totes can be deadly, ya'll.

Man. It was like the apocalypse. Half naked people sweating and wandering back and forth in the dirt and gravel under the blazing sun, paying any price for water. I had never heard of any of the bands except for the Offspring, so I spent most of the day sitting with Michael's camerabag and watching people. My thoughts:

1) I am out of place since I am neither displaying cleavage nor wearing a shirt with a funny saying.
2) The youth of America are really not in very good shape.
3) I hope you kids are wearing sunscreen since you aren't wearing any clothes.
4) Teenage boys sure do love baggy, knee-length, khaki cargo shorts, don't they?
5) Wow, you're really going to regret that tattoo... if you have any sense.
6) Look! I think I see a black person!
7) I hate sitting on the grass. You know someone peed and/or spit on it.
8) I am amost thirty.

This one band led the crowd in a call and response of Charlotte!/F*** you! I was like, am I (you know, as an old person) supposed to be scandalized or something? Because I wasn't. Yelling the f-word in the middle of a field miles from town doesn't have much rebellious conviction if you're going to follow it up by spending $4 for 16 oz of water bottled by the Coca-Cola company.

At around 5:00 pm it started pouring. Michael was in the moat between the crowd and the main stage taking photos. At first I stood in the rain happily knowing that now that I cut my relaxed hair off, I can get it wet whenever I want, but then it started to really pour and that sucks, so we left.

All in all it was a pretty fun day, but I'm glad I didnt have to pay for a ticket.

My favorite t-shirt of the day: "Yes, I am a Negro at a rock show."
