We took a day trip from Nacaome on one of my final days to Amapala, which is an island on the south west coast of Honduras.  It's volcanic, well used to be a volcano, pretty sure it's inactive now.
We grabbed bean burritos and headed out to the bus first thing in the morning with more money than usual stuffed in our bras, since this journey was a bit further than our others.  We took the bus for a ways to a cross road and got off.  We had to wait atleast 15 minutes in the hot morning sun at just a tiny bus stop with a little awning.  The bus stop would have provided sufficient shade, except there were locals with all their fruit baskets and bins of water setup in the shade taking up all the space!  Every time a bus stops they run up to the windows and sell their goods to the bus riders.
We hopped on the bus to Coyolito and settled in for another hour on the bus La Playa Grande
La Playa Grande
.  There was one village along the way that isn't centered on the main road, so the bus turns off to go to the town center.  Well the roads were being rebuilt in the village, so our bus drove through the construction site!  over bumps and piles of dirt and then came back the same way!  It was crazy and I thought the bus was going to tip to the side at one point... Nicole was asleep the whole time of course.  We finally come down the side of the mountain and see the ocean!  At the seaside town of Coyolito, we get off and head towards the water, where basically the road goes straight into the water like a boat ramp and there are a bunch of little 15 foot boats waiting to take people across to the island which is probably only a mile or 2 off shore.  So we hope on with a handful of other people and the boat takes off.
I took a couple pictures with my digital camera wrapped in a zip lock bag while on the boat.  When we arrived on the island we were in the main village, we were able to hitch a ride on the back of a pick up truck with a bench on both sides of the truck bed.  They took us to La Playa Grande, the big beach.  The beach has a couple shacks along the tree line and a little restaurant at the end.
