I arrived Friday evening and got to spend some time with Rach because J was at work. We went to dinner at the local pub and mainly just talked. Nothing too exciting to write about, but great to be a part of.
Saturday was all about playing tourist. We got up not so earlyish and set out for Gloucester's cathedral
From there we began out tour of the area. We first went to Stratford. J and Rach had never been there either, so it was good to walk around the town. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a cold wind, but we found ourselves a good fish and chips place for lunch. Then we walked around the town and saw Shakespeare's birth place, the royal theatre, and the Avon river. It is a nice little town, but so touristy!
Next stop was a tiny place in the Cotswolds called Bourton-on-the-water. It is the most English looking town I have seen so far. It was so lovely to walk around. We decided that it was slightly less cold, so we got ourselves an ice cream and sat by the water to eat. Apparently they play a football/soccer game in the river every year. The river is only up to mid calf, but it is the towns claim to fame. We looked in the old antique stores and the other quirky little shops.
Driving all over the country side is a treat too. The views of the hills and the little villages is really nice. That being said, it was nice to go back and rest before the evenings adventure. For dinner we headed out to Bristol. We ate at an excellent Latin American place. Then we decided to walk along the water. Of course it started to rain and there were no bridges to cross back over the river and head back! We did see a really big boat which I think is called the SS Great Britain, and looked at all of the condos on the water.
Sunday was an excellent day of being truly lazy. We managed to watch 4 movies! Rach and J cooked an amazing Sunday lunch. I will have to try Yorkshire Puddings again. I am pretty sure there was a fire the last time I made them, but I watched closely how Rach did it. It was my best meal in a long time!
Monday morning seemed to come far too soon. We had to say goodbye, and I headed back to London. Hopefully it won't take us 4 years to see each other this time!
