The ladies opted out of my excursion to the National Archaeological museum and don't seem to be even slightly regretful when I tell them about all the pottery, broken swords murals and descriptive text cards they missed wile slacking off on the beach among some pretty vile examples of why 200 pound women should not wear thong bathing suits on crowded beaches. From an aesthetic point of view, I urge you never to be on the south end of a thong wearing porky heading north face down on a lounge chair.
Dinner last night was a mighty collation of seafood prepared by a greek mother with a moustache bigger than I could grow from now to next summer. The catch with a good
Greek meal: The more the host/hostess likes you the more obligatory it is that they give you a glass - or glasses - of ouzo or raki at the end of the meal. Now after studying the naming of these drinks we have decided they are named after the sounds you make as you expel them from your body through the same orifice by which they entered, so we set about not to drink our special gifts of hospitality. The key is to sit at a beachside table so that on the count of three you can all hurl them over your shoulder onto the unsuspecting sea creatures below. A pretty good system unless - like us you might have had a few bevvies before the meal. Yelling "one-two-three" and then chucking the fluids is not the most subtle way to dich the swill. So we won't be eating there tonight.
Today a tour of the Palace of Knossos. Another great stately pile of rubble. Our tour guide stood easily four foot six inches tall and in the course of the excursion through the site managed to provoke loud and almost violent altercations with one curator of the site and two other guides. In the course of the guided tour she revealed to us, among other hitherto unknown historical secrets, that, after the collapse of the Minoan civilization the survivors fled to and colonized Cuba and Mexico. It's amazing the stuff they don't teach us in American schools.
I will stop now, having locked down the record for longest entry in the meganandmolly travelogue. Still awake? I could tell you more.
