Much to our surprise, living in a cabin is not the most glamourous way to live and have recently taken to refering to it as a "gottage," which would be a mix between a garage and a cottage. A garage because there is no insillation to keep us warm and a cottage because of all the wildlife that surrounds it (i.e. the possums).

Due to the inability to heat the gottage, we have taken to closing off the living room to the other parts of the house and cranking up the electric heater while we all huddle around it. It actually works in keeping the living room warmer than the temperature outside, but occasionally we still see our own breath. But while we keep the living room warm, the bedrooms turn to ice making it very hard to sleep.

In a moment of sheer genius, we decided to move all our mattresses out into the living room where we created one giant bed (which was the size of the living room) for us to sleep on. Sure we couldn't really walk around or find anything (since it created a huge mess, but at least it was warm and we could sleep without eightteen layers of clothing.

Our giant sleepover last about a week until we decided to have people over for dinner, and thus had to clean the house. We're thinking about reinstating the living room bed until we leave here in June. It's an appropriate move for a gottage in my opinion. What could be classier than sleeping like they do in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?
