They arrived two days ago and came at the perfect time. Not only were the Remarkables still picturesque all covered with snow, but the temperatures were at an extreme low making the cabin unberable to live in. Their arrival let us move straight into the hotel...and it wasn't a moment too soon.
We spent most of the afternoon trying to keep the moms awake so they would not fall victim to jet lag. We saw the town from both the street level and from the top of the mountain after taking a gondola ride. While on top we went luging which, as always, is great fun, but on this particular day just a bit too cold. Then it was off to Winnie's for a dinner in front of the fire before the moms couldn't take it any longer and had to go to sleep
In the midst of it all, Jane and Molly experienced a minor earthquake. I, unfortunately, was in the car and didn't feel a thing, while Mom was passed out, dead to the world. Gosh. First Jane gets to travel first class and then in her first few hours gets an earthquake. Not fair at all.
Mom and Jane were up early the next morning...so early in fact that a few bars were still open. And of course, they woke us up as soon as they could. The only thing that motivated us to get out of bed was the impending trip to Ferg Burger. Oh and was it tasty!
The good weather gods were still with us as it was sunny and much warmer from the day before. We headed out to Skipper's Canyon for a jet boat ride which was great fun and beautiful.
With the adrenaline still flowing, Jane and Molly headed back up the mountain, via gondola ride and a ridiculously steep hike, to go paragliding. From what I understand it was remarkable.
Tonight will be another early night and tomorrow is a day trip to Milford Sound down in the Fiordlands.
