Molly's stalker comes more in the form of a crazed fan and goes by the name of Fredrick Ross with the title "Pyhsics Department at the University of Virginia." As all of you may know, and for those of you who don't, Molly wrote a math inspired paper about geometery and time travel and had it published in an appopriate math journal with other intriguing papers about numbers. Before even she knew that the journal had been circulated to the masses there was an email from the above mentioned Freddy awaiting her in her inbox several weeks ago. His email was simple. He outlined a handful of mistakes that he found in her paper...mistakes that not only did Molly's professor miss but ones that her editor and the publishers missed as well. Hmmm. Then he praised the paper for its well thought out subject matter and claimed that it was the best introduction to geometery he had been exposed to and couldn't wait to share it with his fellow students.
Molly and I had many questions from this intial email. Who was Fredick Ross, Physics Department at the University of Virginia? How had he stumbled upon Molly's paper? Did he intend to really impose it upon is "fellow students?" Just how much of a nerd was he?
The last question was attainable without a follow up email. Molly navigated her way to the University of Virigina's website, typed in his name and up came and profile. It claimed he was an undergrad student in the pyshics department but offered no more than that. We were hoping for his astrological sign but apparently he left that question blank and opted for a picture instead. With the image of Freddy, tall, dark hair and beard, leaning against a tree with books in his arm, most of our answered questions were answered. He looked like what I imagined the Unibomber looking like in his pre-living in a shack days.
Upon my begging and instant bugging, Molly emailed him back. We didn't know how to proceed but we compromised with a middle of the road email explaining she was honoured he took the time to thoroughly ready her paper while working in the fact that she couldn't offer a rebutal to his arguements since she didn't have the paper in front of her. She even was able to throw in a few of our unanswered questions.
Being true to his nerdy ways, he returned a prompt response. He indeed was a physics student but explained how he never went to class. Instead he convinced a Russian professor of his to sign the independant study forms and now spent his time doing his "own research." His own research in a shack in the woods.
He went onto tell Molly that he subscribes to the math journal in which she was published and while scanning his newest issue found only Molly's worthy of reading. Why did he only find Molly's worth reading? Why does he need to know about time travel for his research in a shack in the woods?
My mind began to race and I only wished Art Bell was still on the radio. Who were his "fellow students?" Were his students people he promised a better life on the tail of a passing comment?
I begged Molly again to email him back and continue correspondance but she refused since the last line in his email asked where she was living in New Zealand. He asked under the pretense that he was considering grad school in this area. He probably just wanted her to be his Egor. And that would make for a good story.
My stalker, on the other hand, is a newly married, computer illiterate woman named Megan Kearney. While setting up a new email account with her newly acquired last name she sent a test email to the wrong account...mine. Being almost as confused as with Molly's first email, I emailed back. She happily returned the email and told me she was living in Tasmania. Now I'm not sure who the stalker is. I fear it might be me since I want to go to Tasmania. I keep working it into emails hoping that she'll extend the offer for us to come visit. We've run out of things to talk about since we've exhausted the topic of it being really weird that we have the same name. But I'll still email and still wait an invitation.
