Every town has its locals that everyone else recognizes. Queenstown is no exception. Every night around 7pm at Winnie's a fellow in his early 50s with a dark, long beard and hair even longer than his beard comes in for a drink. It's just one and he sits on the same stool everytime. He wears a stripped button down shirt that came from the 80s with pants pulled up to mid torso that are sinched tight with a braided leather belt, creating pleats in the pants that never were intended to be there. He is a nice guy and always smiles and says hello.

On one of my rare nights off I noticed him walking through the Motorpark on his way to town for his one drink at Winnie's (I assumed). I pointed him out to Danni and Molly and explained that he's our local. And they, too, knew him. Apparently he has one drink at every bar each evening.

It wasn't until later that I found out his story. His name is Ross but is better known as Caveman Ross. A few years ago, by choice, he lived up in a cave on top of the mountain. We couldn't figure out why anyone would want to live in a mountain but as it turned out in Queenstown there are two people who wanted to live in a cave. Caveman Ross had a roommate who name is Nearly Normal Neil and who is also just as recognizable as Caveman Ross. Nearly Normal Neil has long dreadlocks and is always wearing a leather biker's vest that has a hand giving the middle finger embroidered on the back. Around his neck are a handful of gold chains and his jeans have enough holes that would make him cool in the 80s. They're quite the duo.

Now the two live in a cabin a block or two behind us. They don't always hang out together but after living in a cave together i'm sure they need their time apart. Our friend Pete has had many conversations with the two of them and I can't wait to have my own.
