So after Berlin we started our trek back home. We stopped for a few days at our home away from home in Gryon, Switzerland. We went back to visit, say hi and share some good times with our friends that we already miss. They even arranged to celebrate Thanksgiving (American) on a different day just so we could participate. Like usual it was a wonderful feast with even more wonderful company. Company we hope to see again before too long. Our time at Chalet Martin has been truly amazing.
From there we headed to London to catch our flight home. We decided to spend two nights there so we could have a day to hit all of our favourite sights (read pubs). We actually didn't see any proper sights as we have both pretty much covered London in previous visits. Being big fans of the pub culture, we decided to just take it easy and make the rounds of our favourite public houses. We headed to the Lamb & Flag, Nag's Head, Roundhouse, and saved the Brewmaster for our last night there. The Brewmaster was the pub that we went to when we first arrived in London on June 11, 2007. We found it only fitting to head back for a drink and a little (a lot of) reminiscing on our last night on this trip.
As we are writing this we are on our flight back home. Although we are EXTREMELY excited to get home, we are a little sad to leave the continent that has given us so many fantastic memories, incredible experiences, and of course, wonderful friends. We have been lucky enough to see and experience what most can only dream of. We have been to the top of Europe and "the end of the Earth". In between we have managed to take in quite a bit of history, immerse ourselves in different cultures, and of course put our tastebuds to the test with the countless gastronomical delights that we found throughout Europe. We were able to have pierogies in Poland, spaghetti in Sicily, moussaka in Mykonos, and even haggis in the Highlands. Hopefully our exposure to all these regional dishes will allow us to recreate some of our favourite delights for years to come.
We have rested our heads on about 100 different pillows over the last year and a half. We have slept in the middle of the sea, on the top of a mountain, on an overnight bus, in 1,000 bed hostels, in quaint little B & Bs, in the wonderful Chalet Martin, and even on an airport floor (not recommended). Although we have so many unforgettable memories of places, cultures, and of course friends, we are glad that we have this little travelpod to refresh our memories from time to time. We have really enjoyed sharing these experiences with you, and hope that you have found it at least somewhat entertaining. We have certainly enjoyed putting this together and are looking forward to continuing it in the near future. The most enjoyable part of the whole trip was the fact that we got to do it together. Some people seemed shocked when we told them we have spend 24 hours a day together for so long and didn't kill each other let alone crave a break for some alone time. It was quite the contrary, we could not imagine doing this any other way. We are now preparing to share each other with the friends and family at home that we can't wait to see! We are certainly going to enjoy spending the holidays with our loved ones! We can't wait to get home! See you soon!
