After being inundated with some serious history in Derry, we decided to take in a little more nature on our way to our next stop of Ballycastle.

We headed for the Giants Causeway on the north coast. The causeway is comprised of over 38,000 hexagonal columns that geologists say were formed about 60 million years ago by lava outpourings. It looks like a massive staircase descending from the cliffs (hence its name). We had fabulous weather that day and the pictures should give a glimpse of how unique and fascinating the causeway is.

After our fill of basalt columns, we headed down the road to Carrick-a-Rede. Here they have a rope bridge that was used for hundreds of years by the local fisherman to get to the good spots to catch a few salmon. The bridge is 30 metres up and not the sturdiest structure but the line to cross made up for it. Once across, we soaked up some sun. Meg not only took off her fleece, but the sweater underneath as well! (she did have one more layer, no it wasn't a nude beach).

The next day was pretty gloomy and we passed on a hike we were eyeing. We decided to take in a couple football (soccer) matches going on nearby. The "milk cup" was on which is for players under the age of 21 from around the world.

When we got to the game I told Megan that it was "Chile and Denmark". She looked very confused as she thought I said it was "chilly in Denmark". Classic.

We watched Turkey and Wales draw in their match as well. It was very good football.  These guys are the future stars of the world cup and they certainly showed how much talent is needed to make it. Well worth the effort to see it. Plus we got to use the "loo of the year" in the whole country as the plaques outside proclaimed. Who wouldn't pass that up. Meg suggested after using the facilities that they must have pretty low standards if that is the winner.

Bring on Belfast!
