Well we didn't quite make it to Limerick. As we were on our way we realized it wasn't meant to be. We read in our guide books that it is a pretty rough city. It was referred to as "stab town", ya charming. We also heard on the news that some mob boss was killed and the accused were all convicted of the murder and for stabbing the nephew of the mob boss 17 times (at least they legitimized the town nickname). Anyway, they called in extra police and anticipated some unrest in the community from both sides.

So, our accomodations for the night were in a little town 6 miles north of the city called well Sixmilebridge. Go figure. Anyway it is a very small town with not too much to offer so we explored, relaxed, and made dinner before an early night.

The next day we headed for Galway via the cliffs of moher. The cliffs are the cornerstone of the Irish postcard industry and rightfully so (see pictures). They are absolutely breathtaking.  We walked along the protected area as the cliffs are over 200 metres high and a sheer drop.

So we hopped the barrier and walked out a little more (we were not the only ones). The wind is so strong we were told that each year tourists are blown off. Anyway we did get on our hands and knees and crawl to the edge to look down. Ya it was a little freaky. We both had alarms going off in our body saying what are you doing?! This is stupid! Get me away from the edge moron! It was wild and a little much so we crawled back to safety and headed on our way to galway.

Once in galway we explored the downtown looking for a place to go to dinner the next day as it is Megan's birthday!  The old bag is 24!

Happy Birthday Megan!!!  July 27 Meg fully jumped into her mid-20s!

We set out on a tour of galway. We saw the area where Claddagh rings came from. They are those rings that you see that look like two hands holding a heart. Depending on which way the heart faces on the finger says whether or not the person`s heart is available. Anyway there was no shortage of shops selling them of course but it was nice to see where they came from.

From there we checked out the church where Columbus stopped to pray before he left to discover America.

We then walked through a mall that has a 13th century wall and tower built into it (I suppose they built the mall around the wall - see picture).

Galway is know for its art and music scene and the street performers are a fine example of it. The main street is packed with pockets of tourists gawking at various buskers. They play saxophones, have full bands, maybe a violin and harp duo, or fire breathing devils scaring the crap out of people as they bounce down the street on their devil legs (seriously these two guys were dressed as devils on these stilt like things that were also like pogo sticks. They had weird goulish voice sound effects and were chasing people around with their flaming torches).  Galway certainly has quite the life.

I managed to sneak away and find a mini birthday cake (meg's favourite - fruit cake - I know go figure).  After a little cake, we enjoyed very nice Italian food (the meatballs were not as good as yours mom) to celebrate Megan's birthday and prepared ourselves for our ferry trip out to the aran islands!
