On our way to blackpool we stopped in Liverpool to visit megan's musical Mecca or graceland. The birthplace of the Beatles, Liverpool. We waited in line at the "Beatles story" for the tour and while you wait they play Beatles tunes all the time and everyone in line sings along. The museum is pretty amazing. Not too cheesy but very informative with a lot of memorabilia. It was 10 or about $22 Canadian but it was well worth it.

We arrived in blackpool and realized why we where teased by everyone we told we were going. It is like Clifton street in niagara falls on steroids with a little traveling carnival thrown in for good measure. It is beautifully located on the Irish sea with 6 miles of promenade. That 6 miles is packed with tacky hotels, souvenir shops, and tourist attractions like... Ripleys believe it or not, funland, a zoo, an aquarium, three piers packed with rides games and theatres, and of course a few theme parks. We are told this is the seaside resort town that Brits go to for vacation. Very few foreigners are here so it makes for an incredible English cultural lesson and people watching spot. You just have to be careful as all of the flashing lights look like they have the potential to induce a seizure or two.

The next day was a good sample of English weather. Driving rain with a coastal wind that would blow small children away. We took the opportunity to check out some of the indoor attractions. We went to the tower (see picture) to see what it had to offer. It holds a gluttenous amount of visual stimuli and money grabs. In it is an aquarium, a circus, a ballroom (see picture), a funhouse, slots, restaurants, shows, rides up to the top of the tower, and more. We explored most of it stopping for a coffee to watch seniors ballroom dance (it is veterans week in blackpool).
From there we picked up a couple of books and fought the elements back to the refuge of our tacky yet cozy hotel room.

Off to keswick!
