Cardiff, Wales

Well we left bath and headed to Wales. We encountered our first toll booth... £5.10 oh well. We also had to stop for gas at a sevice station.  As we drove in along the M4 we say the gas price at 98.9 ... Close to home I figured until I realized that was in british pounds! So a little more than double what we pay at home so none of you better complain about the gas prices this summer. Just feel better thinking about what we are paying.  One consolation is the actual service station. They make ours look like potholes along the highway. None of this gas station and fast food. They have hotels, grocery stores, cafés, and healthy food stands as well as "dog exercise parks". Pretty crazy. now I know where all the money from the tolls goes.

We reached Cardiff after about an hour and a half drive and found the hostel no problem. We checked into the fortress as we call our hostel as it seems to be in a dodgy part of town. After filtering through the various levels of security we walked the town and checked out their local market.  We sampled the welsh cake and saw lots of faggots (see picture).

We moved on to Cardiff castle for a tour.  It was ... Well a castle with much history.

We then went in search of the bay as once again it was a sunny afternoon. We sampled some local beers by the wharf and then some more on the main strip downtown. We stopped for something to eat and we saw our first vegetables since arriving. I was actually excited and ordered s "mixed green salad with french dressing on the side of my sandwich (see picture). I think they must be ignored in the English diet.

We sat in a pub from six until ten just people watching and it was incredible! Apparently everyone is required by law to dress up in some sort of costume before they go out on a Saturday night. We saw pirates, cowboys, sailors, and about a dozen stagette parties. It doesn't matter how old, young, tall, short, big, or small you are no one holds back in sassing themselves up. Very confident people!
