Today is our last day in Paris as tomorrow we head to Athens on a 620 am flight...cant wait for that. Yesterday Nina and I went to the Louvre which was just incredible. Its just impossible to see everything in huge museum, so we spent a good amount of time in the Italian and French paintings areas. My favorite works to see in person had to be those of the early 19th century painters Gericault and Delacroix. For instance; one cannot truly grasp the enormous scale of a work such as the Raft of the Medusa by Gericault, until you are standing in front of it. I could have spent many more hours there but eventually we left to find a bite to eat, which we did near the Centre Pompidou. After lunch we wandered to the Marais for a bit of shopping. The area is just adorable - full of cafes and endless shops. If the dollar werent so weak right now, Im sure we would have done some serious damage...For dinner we ate at Le Berthoud near our hotel in the Latin Quarter. Erica arrived today and we plan to check out the Eiffel Tower and Musee dOrsay Our hotel in Paris

. Ill try to add pictures later tonight. Unfortunately; my time at this internet cafe is about to run out quicker than I realized (due mostly to my inefficieny in using this foreign keyboard).

But before I go, some completely random thoughts and comments about our time in Paris:
1. MOST Parisians have been incredibly friendly and tolerated our use of broken French (were trying to get back into as much as possible). One woman in a pharmacy even gave use a mini refresher course in the words for the different parts of the body...definitely an interesting conversation!
2. In my opinion, no where in the entire world does a croissant and coffee taste better than it does in this city...
3. American tourists stick out like a sore thumb (theyre the loud obnoxious ones of course) and surprisingly theyre all over the place despite the pitiful state of the dollar.
4. French children look really serious all the time...whats that about?
5. This really is the city of love. There are couples being overly affection everywhere you look. Its almost nauseating its so frequent. Were definitely feeling some jealousy there...
6. There are way too many incredible things to do and not enough time!

Hi Meggie
I loved reading your travel blog. I'm so jealous. you're sitting in the city of lights and I'm sitting in the city of fire ants. Here's my travel news. This morning I'm going to Houston to see Chancellor Elementary school. It's a well known place in the Houston Vietnamese district and has a beautiful playground which my classroom overlooks. While I'm doing carpool duty in the 105 degree heat, I'll think of you on your way to Greece and get really sad :( Have a wonderful time and think of us poor souls back here in South Texas. Enjoy these moments of travel and leisure Meggie - we love you! Aunt Allie

City of Lights
1. What is the French word for pinkie?
2. Think of me when you stand in front of one of Degas' ballerinas today.
3. French children are serious because .... I have no idea. What IS up with that?
4. You make me want a croissant and coffee. At a French bistro overlooking the Jardin du Luxumbourg.
5. We all love you and miss you and are thinking of you. Especially Lucy.

Your trip sounds fantastic!! I remember the blue of the water in Greece, the pelicans, the calamari and the hand made rugs. No, that's Istanbuhl. Drink some ouzo for me. Oh, yes, have some of that wonderful Greek fish. We love you. Wanie
