We got a pre-paid taxi from the airport into Delhi, where we were dropped off at a travel office. The agent arranged a room for us at the Hotel Red Castle. We checked in, slept, and ordered room service the next day: Poori Bahji, which is fry-bread that you eat with a vegetable stew and pickle (very salty, spicy, pickled vegetables and fruit). Yummy!
We went back to the travel office, where Abdul arranged a tour of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan for us. Our driver, Rajeesh Kumar, drove us around Delhi for the rest of the day. Luckily for us, it was raining and only in the mid-90s. The day prior, we were told, there was no rain and it was 47 degrees Celcius! which is 116 degrees Fahrenheit!!! Several people had died. We were very very lucky that the monsoon arrived the same day we did.
On this day, we saw the India Gate, Humayun's Tomb, and the Qutb Minar. Delhi is also working furiously to complete the metro system, and signs of contruction were all over the city.
