The trip south from Nelson passed first through Cape Foulwind, where we spotted our first real New Zealand wildlife, in the form of some seals sunning themselves on the rocks. A little further south are the pancake rocks of Punakaiki, so named for the layering which makes them look like stacked pancakes.
