Our journey to Rotorua took us through Thames, Te Aroha, and Tirau. We arrived on the outskirts of the city around 2:30--where they dropped us off for either zorbing or at the agrodome. I bought the twofer pack at the agrodome and chose to do the free fall and the jet boat ride. I liked the jet boating so much I decided to do the real thing in Queenstown.

We arrived in Rotorua proper around 4:30, giving me an hour or so to visit the free geothermal parks within walking distance of the hostels before the Maori hangi ceremony that night.

The dinner experience was pricy (and somewhat corny), but loads of fun. Our bus driver Florence was a total hoot, and the dinner itself was full of traditional Maori singing, dancing, the welcoming ceremony, a cultural village, and of course the hangi meal.
