Paddies Day In The Sun

So, finally, the last entry from Sydney. I won't beat about the bush so here's the lowdown.

Dermot Gets Angry

Paddies day was quality. Drinking to excess in the Mercantile Bar, which was wedged beyond belief. There was an Irish music band on, playing all the usual suspects, as of course we all sang along happily in our drunkeness. Every bar in town was full, they even had to close off some streets there were so many of us.

The night before Paddies we were out with Aishlings job for a farewell drink (or two). We ended up in the Hilton, quit merry already, where we met a Japanese guy called Jimmy (surely not his real name??) who had something to celebrate and so bought a round of expensive champers. IN fact it cost around $500 per bottle!!! Of course we happily drank it. In fairness its not every day a bloke buys me a drink!! But he was a nice guy anyway. He even told Aishling she was "More Beautiful then Geisha". Too right.

Fake Bono

So, on the Sunday there was a big piss up on in Hyde Park for the Irish. They fenced off part of the park, filled it with pubs and fast food outlets, stuck in a stage full of Irish music, and we were happy. It was a gorgeous day. All the trad bands played to uninterested audiences all day until they made way for a U2 tribute band who were quite good actually. Your man was the image of Bono. They played all the hits too. It was about as close as we were gonna get to the real thing since they had cancelled the concert we were to see them in at the end of the month in Adelaide. Oh well. Refunds will be had.

Anyway, gotta run coz I'm drunk and can't believe I haven't mispelled yet. Talk to yiz all later and will fill you in on what the craic was with the rest of the trip.
