Happy New Year!!!

So it finally came and went. 2005 has been a great year for me. I'm doing what I've always wanted to do and I'm enjoying every minute of it. But it ain't over yet, theres six more months to go!!!!

Fireworks 1

What better way to mark the halfway point of our travels than spend New Years in Sydney. Its really bigger than Christmas here. There is much more excitment about it than at home, and rightly so. The fireworks were amazing, and well worth the long wait.

We had spent the last few weeks discussing where we would watch the fireworks from, and we decided on Mrs Maquaries Point, which is pretty much the best place to watch them from. They were only letting in 25,000 to this area so we had to get there early, as in about 1 in the afternoon. We got there as planned, but it seems everyone else had the same idea. Some people had been there since 9am and had taken all the good spots, as in the shaded ones. It was a scorcher of a day, clear skies and 38 degrees. We manged to get a somewhat shaded area so we were ok, but some people were out in the sun all day and were lobstered all over. They're gonna feel it now!!

Fireworks 2

You weren't allowed to bring any alchohal in, but we managed to sneak in loads by disguising it as lemonade and all that. We even glued the lids back on properly so you'd never know they had been opened and refilled. Genius really. Just genius...

Anyway, after a days drinking, eating, playing cards and getting a fabulous tan, the sun finally set behind the skyline and gave us some relief. The atmostphere started to build as it got dark, with people singing and doing mexican waves and such. Loads of fun. At about 9 o'clock there was a pre-midnight fireworks display, for the kids. I started taking a few photos and discovered that there was something wrong with the memory card. It was fecked!! Of all the nights for it to break. I was gutted. My camera has become almost part of my anatomy at this stage, like the mobile phone. Luckily I packed my spare, which only holds about 15 pictures, but that had to do. I managed to get a few pictures of them so you can check them out.

It really was the best New Years ever, not like at home where its always an anticlimax, and the Fireworks were the best I have ever seen. One for the memories....
