Detour, detour, detour. Its our own fault really. we didn't get our Vietnam visa in Biejing like we originally planned coz we thought we could get it at the border. Turns out we were wrong and the only other way of getting one in any sort of decent timescale was to go to Guangzhou (about 70 miles from Hong Kong) and get it. So we got a sleeper bus from Yangshou overnight. It looked pretty cool at first - everyone has their own little bed (very little - I'm small but they are built for Chinese people who are even smaller) and there's a T.V. which plays movies and everyones happy and quiet. It played one in English and one in Chinese, very loudly just before we wanted to sleep. Then the bed quickly becomes very uncomfortable and some knob head next to you wants to snore for China and its bye bye sleepy-poos. The guy snored like a demon. No matter how much I nudged, flicked, called or shook he just stopped for about 10 seconds then went back snoring again. I even at one stage pulled his blanket off - nothing. Anyway, suffice to say I got about 5 seconds sleep for the night.

Guangzhou is a big city. The richest in China after Hong Kong and Shanghai. It's very modern with loads of elevated flyovers and all. It used to be owned by the British like Hong Kong and you can tell by the buildings. We stayed in a hotel which was close to the U.S. consulate and also the Vietnam one for our visas (whic cost $60!!). There are playgrounds for adults here too. Very bizarre. They call them fitness parks.

There's also a ridiculous amount of American couples here adopting Chinese babies. They are everywhere. It becomes a bit sick after you see more than 70 (we counted) and that was just in one day. Its very wierd.

We didn't really do much else in Guangzhou, just ate, slept and got tickets to fly to Hanoi. We decided to forget about Hong Kong - its just too expensive.

So there you go. Guanzhou in a nutshell. And I've one photo because I accidentally erased the rest from my camera. I hate when that happens.
