We slept for nearly the whole of the next day, the jetlag was a killer, but when we got up to go exploring we could really see what Beijing was like
. Fuckin Madness!!! There are so many people here, and most of them are amazed to see any westerners at all. They stare at you all the time. Its a bit weird at first but you get used to it.
The shops are so cheap here. But the shop assistants can be really annoying and follow you around pointing out stuff that they think you might like for some reason. And when you're walking past the shops they applaud you to get you to come in!! It seems to work on the chinese people but I just thought it was hilarious!!!
The food is quality (I'll never eat a chinese at home again) and the sightseeing is something else, like something out of a movie. Check out the photo's!!
Well we arrived in Beijing from London Heathrow after an over night flight on BA. The flight was legendary, your own TV and loads of free food. I think I'm the only person I know who likes airplane food!!! Anyway, arrival in Beijing was mad. Its a huge airport and theres about 7 security checks before you even get near your baggage, and then more afterwards. I think they're getting ready for the Olympics. We got a local bus to Tianamen Square and a taxi from there to the hostel, though it took a bit of time to explain where it was to the driver. We really should have learned some chinese. He finally copped on and headed into this dingy looking little place with delapidated houses and small smelly streets. We thought he was gonna leave us there to be murdered or something!! But he didn't, obviously, and dropped us at the hostel which was more like a 4 star hotel. It was quality.
