When we landed in LA we had three hours to get through security etc and get onto our connection to New York.  Immigration was a nightmare and even after we had our bags we had to queue to get out.  We followed absolutely no signs to the right terminal and put our bags in as they were tagged all the way to New York.  About five minutes later we noticed the flight had been cancelled, aaaaaaahhhhh!
We then had to join a queue to book onto another flight.  The flustered lady on the desk put us onto one the next morning at 9 and told us our bags would be sent to New York at the next flight.  This all meant a night in LA with no luggage.  The Traveller's Aid volunteers booked us into a nearby hotel and we took the courtesy bus there.  We went for dinner at a local restaurant, got confused over the tipping situation and went to bed for a nice sleep.  As we'd crossed the international date line that day the 21st February lasted 44 hours for us so somewhere in the world there's another Theresa and Mark?!
We arrived at the airport in good time the next morning and would you believe this other flight had been cancelled too?  Back to the queue and hopefully another flight.  We decided that if we didn't get a flight that day we'd stay in LA and see the sights of tinsel town.  The man at the desk could only get us on a standby list for the 11am flight so we had to go through into departures and pray for two seats.
Crazily, American Airlines overbook their flights and loads of people were on standby too.  We did get called for that flight but we'd have had to separate onto different flights.  We didn't want that so we were in the queue for the 12pm flight.  Thankfully we were both put onto this flight and even got to sit next to each other.  We were finally on the way to the Big Apple!
Love Theresa and Mark xxxx
