We drove off the ferry and went straight to our hostel the Cambridge. We soon realised parking would be an issue and ended up having to move our car several times whilst we were staying there, as parking was free on the road after a certain time but cheaper in the car park the rest of the time...Great!
We settled into the hostel, and the following day we got up to explore the city. We went round the Te Papa museum which is a really big place and free to get into. They had some really good displays about volcanoes and earthquakes, as well as loads of other exhibits. After the museum we went to the cable cars. We found when we got there though that they weren't actually cable cars but a Fenicular railway that went up and down the hill. The railway stopped at a couple of stops on the way up inculding the university before we reached the top. At the top we walked round Wellington's botanical gardens and saw a few observatories as well as some fantastic views of the city.
Afterwards we walked to Parliament House, where we saw the building shaped like a bee hive, and sat in the gardens for a while, before hitting the shops for a look around. Tired out from our busy day we headed back to the hostel to cook tea and laze about for a bit. The following day we had decided to head for Taupo, so we set off nice and early in the morning. Love Theresa and Mark xx PS still enjoying the journey but maybe getting a little bored of Museums! More thumbnails ...
