Woke-up excited to start my day... Had breakfast on my way to meet my Snorkeling Group at a cute little restaurant close to hotel, Onni's- very good, friendly staff and great lattes!
Meet my snorkeling group, 9 of us. Fun group of people... we had a great time!
We first snorkeled not far from the village in front of Long Beach- we were given 30minutes. The water looked so refreshing, not only because it was beautiful but because it was hot out- all I wanted to do is jump in!  There wern't as many fish as I had expected... maybe later.
We then went to Bamboo Beach to have lunch and roam around- we were given 1-1/2 hours to do so. Other snorkeling groups/boats were also there to do the same. We ate and ventured out to take pictues and go swimming. The sand is very white with a lot of coral and many shells.
After Bamboo Beach we headed for Monkey Island- small, narrow stretch of sand with several trees full of monkeys that come right up to you expecting to be fed. This is exciting for about 15 minutes for me before I began to feel sad for the monkeys as the many boats full of people are encroaching upon their home... I'm guilty- I took pictures too.
Now we're off to Maya Bay, where the movie BEACH with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed.  We enter between two open cliffs into the back of the bay- breathtakingly beautiful!  We all jump off the boat and swim for the rocks to climb the ladder over the rocks to the other side.Climbing up to the ladder is a little challenging- the tide comes in and pushes you against the rocks if you don't hold on tight to the ropes they have placed about 6' from the ladder. Pull yourself up and climb over the rocks down to a small shallow lagoon. Then you follow the path through the jungle before it opens up to the spot where they filmed BEACH- you recognize it right away.  We were given 1hour to swim here, climb the ladder again over the rocks and make it back to the boat.
We all get back in the boat and then head over for some cliff diving/jumping.  Nobody from our boat jumped, some of the people from the other boats did.  It was pretty high!
We were unable to see the sunset because there were clouds coming in and blocking the sun. Arrived back in the Village at about 6:30pm. This was the best 500B that I have spent... worth every baht!
Everybody on the boat got along so well, we all decided to go out to dinner together!  We met at 8pm- had dinner at GBPP Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant has an ongoing special, buy one drink & get the second free... AND free alcohol shot after dinner (we had three!).
We then make our way over to Apache Club- 10pm on Monday (it happened to be a Monday) free Caberet Show... see the "Lady Boys" sing and dance.
After that we head to the Tiger Bar for a free bucket (rum & coke) from 12am to 12:10am only! We make it and get our bucket (yuck!). Tiger Bar is a small bar with a DJ and a very small dance floor, young college crowd.
Had our bucket now we're off to the Banana Bar... fun rooftop bar. You have to climb a narrow winding staircase 3 stories. Great DJ, bed/lounges (that you don't have to buy) and a small bar. Fun place!  We run into a few people there and we all head over to the Beach Party- on our way we stop off at 7-Eleven to buy beer (BYOB).
The Beach Party happens every night until the sun comes up. There is a DJ, lights and the sand is your dance floor!  Everybody is dancing and having fun.
I had a very full and action packed day/night! :)
*Bring water shoes!!!  The rocks are sharp and you have to walk/climb over many when visiting Maya Bay.
*Bring your own alcohol to the Beach Party
*The village is very small, in a matter of a few days you know quite a few people or at least see the same faces
*Prices a little more on island for everything
(ie Internet Cafes in Phi Phi are all 2B/minute... this adds up quick!
