So, I'm not actually still in Ica, this is just a belated post. I've been sick then traveling then recovering, so i haven't had a whole lot of time to blog, just been sleeping and reading after getting back from working with the kids! Who absolutely wear me out, by the way. I'll post more about my volunteer placement soon.

Anyway, this weekend was incredible. It started on friday night with a rickety 6 hour overnight bus ride! It wasn't bad, just a little scary looking out the window... we got to our hotel in the early hours of the morning, all dressed poorly for the FREEZING weather!! We had to stay outside for a few hours until check in , and at that point we are all exhausted, dirty, and wondering if this trip would be worth it.

After a long nap I finally began to appreciate my surroundings. Our hotel was one of a few small hotels and restaurants in an oasis, surrounded by sand dunes! it was so weirdly beautiful, like an alien landscape. We got to go out on a dune buggy excursion (CRAZY driver) and try sandboarding, which is exactly like snowboarding except on sand dunes... we went down on our bellies... hahaha

Check out the pictures. Oh, another highlight: before we left i got pancakes, definitely the most delicious breakfast I've had since I've been here :)
