The bus was scheduled to arrive in Hue at around 6 or 7am. I had bet Kyle that we would arrive before 10am. We arrived at10.50am. I was 1,000 dong down. That's almost 4 UK pence. I had slept badly. This was a bad start to the day.
On the plus side, we had been sat next to a couple on the bus who we'd become friendly with; Johnny from Derry and his girlfriend Laura, from Tyrone. They had got the plane from Vientiane to Hanoi with Kyle and Stephanie (whilst we were on the 30 hour bus from hell), and had become friends with them as well. The six of us walked around the town, searching for a place to stay.
There were places aplenty. We eventually settled upon US$13 for each double room, with A/C and a pretty decent pool. It was nice to get off that bus and straight into the pool. Although it had rained for days, Hue wasn't flooded and today was superb, not a cloud in the sky. We stayed in the pool for an hour or two before heading out for lunch, then we all went back to the hotel to catch up on the sleep we didn't get on the night bus.
Out for a few pints in the evening, we learnt that 18 people had died in the floods in Hanoi.
