Today we left Vian Vieng, and its numerous bars all showing looped episodes of Friends, and took a minibus for 4 hours to the Lao capital, Vientiane. The journey was reasonable, and we arrived at about one o'clock in the afternoon. We spent the next hour walking around the small city with our backpacks on, trying to find a place to stay with reasonable prices and free rooms. The "Oz-merican" couple we'd met tubing, Kyle and Stephanie, were travelling to Vientiane later today and we'd agreed to reserve a room for them wherever we ended up. This wasn't a problem at all, but I think it made us a bit more critical of the places we saw, as you don't want to feel that you're letting other people down.
They arrived about three hours after us. They'd been in a coach, as opposed to a minibus. This was probably a good thing, at least in a sense, as they had hit, and fully driven over, a cow. Not a perfect journey.
We went out for a few beers, had a bit of a look around the city and then we found an Indian restaurant, so we went for a curry - haven't had one of those for ages.
