Due to the weather we were a little limited on our day trips for the weekend. On Saturday we decided to go to the Cork City Gaol.  It is a restored prison that is furnished with life-size wax figures and exhibitions telling the social history and contrasting lifestyles of 19th century Cork and why some people turned to crime.  During our self-guided tour we got an insight into daily prison life at that time.  The Gaol is about a ten minute walk from our dorms which was nice.  The windy and rainy weather really added to the spookiness of the jail.

After the Gaol tour we warmed up then regrouped for a comedian show downtown. It was at a pub called the LV and on Saturday nights they have comedians perform in their craichouse (craic = fun).  We found out about it by a girl we met from the states that is also studying abroad.  She has family in Cork and her cousin was the MC. It was really cool because it was all locals and definitely no place we would have found on our own. If our American accents didn't make us stick out enough, I proceeded to light my hair on fire from one of the candles on the table. Luckily I didn't use any hair spray that night and we were able to put it out quick without having too much damage to my hair haha. Needless to say I may have been the main joke of the night.

I posted some pictures from the day.

I added in a couple of random ones as well. There are a couple group shots of everyone from Quinnipiac that is studying at UCC. A couple more shots of a concert for one of my classes. We have to go to local music preformances around Cork. I went to one with a popular Irish singer, Gemma Hayes. She was awesome!  Check out some of her music on youtube...I'm sure you'll love it.  The last random picture is of one of the stands at the "English Market". I reminds me of Faneuil Hall in Boston.  Here is a link with more information about it:
