But, waking up early just gave us more time in Uppsala once we got there. After breakfast we bid goodbye to our gracious host and headed to the train station to catch the bus to Uppsala. After abour an hour on the bus, we found ourselves in central Uppsala. We stored our bags and got right down to the sightseeing.
First we trecked up the very steep hill to the castle. It was made up of two halves, a more modern half that basically was made up of offices and an older half that was in ruins. The older half also housed a fairly interesting museum. It seemed really cheap to get in, and when we got in I could see why. It was really well done, with interesting explanations about the different parts of the castle. They even provided a pamphlet that described all of the rooms in detail and even some of the more important events that took place there. There wasn't a lot there, but that was understandible seeing as as recent as the ninteen eighties the place didn't even have a
After that we went to just go take a quick look at one of the university buildings that happened to be nearby. It was really cool, although the one hall (not sure if it was used for lectures or not) that we went into was stifing hot on the inside. It would be really cool to go to school there though, I hope that I can someday.
Then we went to one of Uppsalas main attractions, the cathedral. It was very impressive, on the
From there we went into a smaller, older church right next to the bigger one. This one was less impressive looking for the outside, but the inside was quite interesting. All of the walls and celing were still covered with paintings. I was a little amazed at the lack of people inside the chuch. Sure, it was not nearly as grand looking as its neighbour, but it was still very cool to see. After taking a quick look at the viking stones outside the cathedral, we went for lunch.
We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and looking around for a tent. We found a tent, and managed to leave Uppsala just as it started raining.
