I awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of snow plows going up and down our street. I was so excited that I woke Paul to tell him- he, for some strange reason, was not so impressed! Haha when I awoke at a decent hour and looked out my bedroom window, everything was white and covered in snow. It was so incredibly beautiful.

We left early to try and find some hand and toe warmers as we had run out and in this temperature they are totally needed! However, everywhere was out due to this crazy weather. Today was a max of -8 and a low of -18! But we soldiered on and got on the bus to take us to the 9/11 memorial. We were waiting on the bus for what seemed like forever- it was so cold I actually wanted to cry! I tried to keep moving but I was numb! Even my lips wouldn't work. We finally arrived to find that it was closed due to the blizzard and snow cover. I was so annoyed because I was freezing and it meant we went on the frosty cold bus for an hour for no reason. But we took a walk through the 9/11 museum which still had lots of interesting facts and things to look at. There was a Statue of Liberty in a glass case that was decorated in all the keepsakes of those who lost their lives. There were airline tickets, badges, letters etc that were found amongst the rubble.

After, we went to warm up at the Chelsea markers. We were told to come here by our gorgeous friends- Steven and Julio. And boy it was worth the frostbite! We sampled lots of yummy food in the cutest of places. It was so easy going and organic and alternative and perfect! We had the best grilled cheese sandwich from Lucy's Whey, sampled sushi, pies and all sorts of sweets. I wish I could have eaten more- there was so much to try... I just couldn't eat another thing!

We taxied back to Times Square because it was too cold to walk any further. We went into Toys Are Us because it just had to be seen with a Ferris wheel inside the store, massive Lego statues of the statue of liberty, Empire State Building and even a robotic T-Rex. I bought some of the nail polish that Jenelle used to paint the New York sports teams on my nails last night. So excited for the next creation.

Next we wandered around Times Square before heading back to our apartment. This morning when we left the central heating wasn't working so there was no hot water for showering or heating to keep us warm. Unfortunately, this was the case tonight. We couldn't shower or keep warm. Our owner said we could move to another apartment down the road but it seemed like too much effort so we decided we would just bundle up tonight and keep our fingers crossed for it to work again tomorrow.

Tonight, Paul and I met up with Tara, Brady, Pope and Chris from our contiki group for dinner at Guy's All American Diner. I had delicious chicken and veg and wine. It was so nice to catch up with then again and hear if their adventures. Tara and Brady got engaged today at Grand Central. How amazing is that?!? After dinner we continued on to a little Irish bar for a few more drinks before calling it a night. It was hard to once again say goodbye to our new friends but I know we will all keep in contact and hopefully see each other soon!

We walked home in the freezing cold and bundled up to try and keep warm. New York- you have certainly shown us your power today!

Loving every second of this American adventure!
