Today was amazing! We started the day bright and early at 6am to ensure we got to the hire place on time. We hired our snow clothes: jacket and pants and bought some gloves and goggles for our very first snow experience! After we enjoy some eggs on toast, fuelling ourselves for what was going to be an extreme day of snowboarding, we headed off to Heavenly- the ski slopes here in Lake Tahoe.

We arrived at the ski store ready to get fitted for our snowboard and boots. I must admit it took forever, well over an hour, before we actually got to get on the gondola (sky lift) that took us up the mountain. The view was incredible- overlooking pine trees covered in snow with the lake in the distance. Breathtaking to say the very least. I will admit, I was a little nervous about snowboarding. Especially after my last 'extreme sports experience' of paddle boarding and failing terribly haha I knew I was in for a serious challenge!

Once we arrived at the top, we got started on our snowboarding lesson with our instructor, Shae. This was his first season working there but he was very knowledgable, patient and enthusiastic! We first learnt how to move up and down with one foot strapped in. Once we got the hang of that we moved to a little slope where we learnt to board down and then stop by taking off one foot. Then we learnt how to do a heel 'J' turn. It was so fun, hard, but fun. I was a bit hit and miss really. I'd do an awesome turn one time then the next id fail! But I just kept going until I felt a bit better! We then learnt how to toe 'J' turn which I found a lot harder because I'd just got the hang of the heel and now I was expected to turn the opposite way haha but eventually I got there. By this point my feet were killing me due to the lack of arch support on the boots- but I kept going. The last part of our lesson was learning to 'heel stop' this was when you started on your butt, moved to a squat position then put your heels back to help you slow and eventually stop. Shae was very helpful at this part and I got the hang if it quicker than the rest!

This was the end of our lesson so we were ready to move to a real mountain. I didn't feel ready but I didn't want to miss out and regret it later. So, I got on the lift up the mountain rest to face my fears. When at the top, I boarded up and just went for it! I'm not gonna lie- I fell on my butt several times but mainly because I as too scared of going too fast and hitting other people on the slopes (I'm not too great at turning just yet!) I got to the bottom and of course... Went straight back up- 7 times!! Haha Paul didn't go again but he was happy to watch me and some of the other guys go back for more!

We took a break for lunch and done much needed water. It's amazing how strenuous it was! Also how hot we got- I didn't have lots of clothes on under my ski stuff and I was still sweating! After a short break, I went once more down the mountain and by then we were ready to head back into town. To be honest, I could have kept going all day! I loved it! Yer my legs were sore and my butt was getting bruised with all my stacks- but I just loved the thrill and challenge of the slopes! I'm gonna do it again soon for sure!

After a little snooze at the hotel in the arvo- Paul, Brady, Tara, Steph, Adrian and I went out for dinner. We wanted to go to Mongolian but it was too busy so we headed to an Irish pub instead. We will probably book in for the Mongolian for tomorrow night. Dinner was great- I had a chicken salad! It was nice hanging out with our tour guide and driver as well as such a fun, positive couple that we met on tour!

Today was an awesome, awesome, awesome day! I love Lake Tahoe- the buildings are so cute, the snow is so fun, the town has such a beautiful aurora and it was great stepping out if my comfort zone today and trying something new like snowboarding! To set it off- tonight on the way to dinner I crossed off another thing on my bucket list without intention! Adrian made my stand in the star jump position in the middle on the road. I did and he told me that at that moment, I had one foot in Nevada and one in California: I was in two places at once!

Feeling so truly blessed!

Love Simone.
