We looked around McAllen for an overnight stop and found most of the campgrounds in the town were over 55 resorts and we were refused a site at another because we had kids, talk about discrimination, dogs ok, no kids allowed?
A guy suggested Port Isabel, a coastal town and the gateway to South Pade Island on the Gulf coast of Texas. More of a family destination. Finally we hit town and found a campground in town very popular with snowbirders down for the warmer winter weather.
We had to stay here a few days to have some mail forwarded and we are glad we did, the people staying here were so friendly. We met Lee and Winita from Michigan, regular visitors to Mexico for 15 years, on their way back again. Lee was very helpfull, talking travel tips and destinations over a couple of beers. Terry and his dad, 95 and still driving and fishing.
We unsuccesfully tried to smuggle Larry into a local Seafood restaurant one night in his hand bag and had to settle for take away fish and chips instead.
We spent a day at the beach on the island walking and relaxing.
The main highlight, especially for Emily, was the day Boongy arrived in the mail, Hooray Boongys home again Hooray!!!
Now we are all set to cross the border, manyana the 4th of Jan.

Terry, Dad and the boys
Terry was regularly dropping us in a plate of his mums famous grapefruit pie or some freshly caught battered and fried fish. We also met Dave, our next door neighbour, who took a shine to the kids and was a great help, Taking us to Brownsville the day before we left to change money and get some last minute supplies.
Our Neighbour Dave
We stayed here a week and amongst other things the highlights were watching the fireworks on new years eve, James, Bev and Myself from the roof of the RV. We could see all the backyard displays as well as the big show on the Island a few miles away.We unsuccesfully tried to smuggle Larry into a local Seafood restaurant one night in his hand bag and had to settle for take away fish and chips instead.
