On our way down to Greece we stopped back in Rome to show Hannah and Campbell around.

So these shots are for my mum, sites with the kids. FYI "sharse" or "show us" mum was the other response I got from the kids when I asked them to pose for photos. The initial reaction was a roll of the eyeballs and a "do we have to Mum?"

We left Pont Saint Esprit at 7.05 Friday morning to catch our 9.30 am train to Rome via Nice, Ventimiglia and Genoa. It was a flying stop as Rome for 5 people adds up so we stayed in a place out of Rome and had our moments. We arrived late with all our bags into Rome late Friday night at 11.30 pm and made our way to what we thought would be our apartment, only to find out that we were just getting processed and still had to ride the metro 3 stops away to our apartment. Finally got to bed at 2.30 am after a late night dinner of Pizza from a pizzaria owned by a Chinese couple, and a hot shower. We had booked the other 2 nights at a place called San Nicola just near Ladispoli on the coast, a 45 min train ride and a 15 min. bus ride and we were a 5 min. walk to the beach. Great spot just a bit of an effort to get to Rome. After an afternoon seeing the sights we headed back Saturday night. Andrew had headed back earlier and we made the 7.12pm train back to Ladispoli so we could make the last bus back to San Nicola. We get to Ladispoli and the ding dongs we are, just jumped on the bus without looking. Once we discovered that we were heading the right way we were fine until we got to San Nicola. In the dark we looked for our stop, but the next thing we know we are leaving San Nicola but we were rescued by sheer luck. The bus does a loop to the local hospital and then heads back to the bus station. Oh, the intrepid and accidental travellers we are! Sunday we decided to go in early only to discover that the bus service stopped after lunch time and train service ran irregularly. So we wandered around Ladispoli for a few hours then headed home to relax. We had a epic fail with the washing machine, it sparked and smoked and kept popping and shorted out the electricity leaving us with damp clothes for our early departure the next day.

Monday we checked out and with bag watching shifts at the Roma Train Station we explored Rome all day.  We survived the overnight train to Bari then spent the day waiting for our 8.00pm ferry departure. The ferry ride was awesome even though we were only on reclining chairs. But it was a very comfortable ride with plenty of room, showers and clean toilets and staff on-hand to help with anything.

We arrived in Patras the next day (Wednesday) at 1.00pm and then took a series of buses and trains to get to Athens. Loooong day but once again we were relieved to get to our place, shower and relax. Despite having the Acropolis and other Ancient Greek ruins nearby we have spent the first day at home recovering. We'll spend the next five days exploring but we are so glad to be stayed-put for a little while.

Campbell has been keeping up with his school and doing well. Hannah has been learning more songs on her "charango".

Our Greek, we have discovered is stinky as we only have a page of words from our Europe guide book. But the Greeks seem to know English better than the French and Italians, so... lucky us?

This is Andrew, the Greek people I have met so far have liked Australians... heh heh the fools.

Debbie on

You all look so good. Tina are you getting younger? It looks like so much fun. How will you ever remember everything you've done? Good on you keeping up with your schoolwork Campbell.
