I am now on my way back to Salt Lake City via Charlotte , NC and Phoenix, AZ for 5 days while my family head down to Uruguay without me.
Three weeks ago I also received news that my good friend from work Sheral Gallagher had passed away. Sheral was an intragal part of our school community who knew how how to get things done, make you feel welcome and included and shared with us the most incredible treats.
The loss of these wonderful people in our lives has helped to make us realize perspective and priority and that we are capable of sharing love with one another to help lighten ones burdens. We are so grateful to be on this adventure of a lifetime but we are mindful of family and friends who have had their tragedies to deal with in their lives at home.
PS. The night we found out, the kids had been on facebook and discovered that something was wrong. But after checking the posts and chatting with Ethan, (Zach's younger brother) it was not good news. The kids were distraught and Andrew and I had to decide what to do, so after some discussion and thought we decided it best I go to represent the family and show our love and support rather than all lump up and be extra work for the grieving family than a help. Everyone agreed, arrangements were made and I made my way back. We contacted other family in SLC to let them know I was on my way and my sister Lavinia's friend, Natalie to see if she could pick me up from the airport and put me up for a couple of days until I could figure out if the family could accomodate me.
I arrived 11pm on Monday night and stayed two days at the McGary resort (the nickname my sister and I have given Natalie's place, it's gorgeous with gorgeous views). Scott and Angie in amongst their grief and sorrow they were troopers and by the time I turned up Tuesday morning they were welcoming others into their home who were armed with love, support and food were in turn comforted by Angie and Scott. It was a sad to be there because of the loss of their son Zach but an amazing scene to behold the strength and faith that was being displayed.
I ended up staying with "Grandma Mary" along with some of the aunties and cousins from California and Hawaii that had arrived. So sad we had to be there for Zach but it was a lovely time connecting with family. The outpouring of love and support for the Peffers and Zach was immense, the attendance at the viewing on Friday the line up meandered throughout the hallway and in the recreation hall at the chapel and the service on Saturday filled the chapel and the recreation hall.
I find myself very priveleged and blessed to have been able to return to SLC to show my love and support with so many family and friends to the Peffer family.
