So Tina thought it was a good idea to buy me a khaki cap with a red star on the forehead.

I wore it today.

One older couple giggled at me on the train into town. Two different boys marched like soldiers beside me on the street, two men saluted in the market and on the train home and an old man took my photo.

That's what I call a success!

To be honest about it, I started to feel very uncomfortable, especially here in Xi'an where there are older men who still wear their worn out military clothes and people clearly old enough to have experienced the tumult the cap represents.

Mixed feelings I can't quite identify. Perhaps I felt like I was taking something far too lightly.

What made it worse is I got a little bit lost and had to mime
"train" to find the station. Arm motions, "choo choo" noises and
