July 25 - by Katelyn

Today we went to Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Monument

For breakfast we went to a Waffle House because Emma has been begging dad to go to one, and mom was leaving today. At the Waffle House I got a waffle and a hash-brown.  Then, we dropped Mom off at the airport.  I was a little sad to see mom go because she would not come out to see us again on the trip, but I was excited because we were going to be home and see Max in 17 days!  Then we went to a National Monument called Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Monument.  There I learned that this National Monument is a Civil War site.  This is the second bloodiest battle ever.  The first bloodiest battle was Gettysburg.  I learned that in this battle 40 thousand people died!  I think that this is really amazing because in wars now only a couple thousand people die, but just in that battle 40 thousand people died, and there were many battles.  We sort of rushed through this site, but this battle was an important battle because the Union wanted the fort because it was closer south and it would be easier to attack the Confederates.  After we went here, we drove for four hours to South Carolina.  The drive was very windy, and I felt really sick on it.  We went to a Wal-Mart and slept there since it was very late and we would leave again early in the morning.
