June 2 - by Emma

Today we went to a national monument called Hovenweep. On the drive it rained for the first time in many months.  There used to be Indians that settled here 1,000 years ago.  One amazing thing is that their houses still stand today.  When we got to Hovenweep we went on a 2.5 mile hike.  We saw many houses, and my favorite on was a built on the edge of the cliff.  We packed or back packs full of heavy things because we were practicing for our big hike at the Grand Canyon.  My dad had a big load that weighed 30 pounds. I felt really safe because if we did got lost we would be prepared.  During the hike we saw 3 baby ravens in a nest. We also saw the mom and dad come back to feed them.  They were all really cool.  I think that the ruins here are more spread apart than Massa Verde and the other sites that we have seen. When we got back to the Visitors center I was pretty tired because I had a gallon jug in my backpack.  When we got there we worked on our Junior Ranger for about an hour and got our badge.  When we were done that we went in the RV and drove to our campsite.  On the drive it was pretty boring because I was mad at my dad, and I wouldn't talk.  When we finally got to the campsite everything was better and we took a shower.  I was hoping to watch a movie, but it got too late and I couldn’t.  We ate dinner and after that we went to bed.
