Today I woke up and Gulf Island National Seashore
Today I had a really interesting day. First we went into Wal-Mart to get some Easter presents. After that we went to Gulf Island National Seashore. The first thing that we did at Gulf Island National Seashore was go to the Visitors Center.
As soon as I stepped out of the RV I knew that I would love this Park, because it was really beautiful. At the Visitors Center we got our Jr. Ranger books. Then we went to our Campsite.
There are many amazing birds here, and we got some really cool pictures of Osprey, which can have a wingspan of 6 feet! Next we went to Fort Pickens. At Fort Pickens we went on a Ranger tour.
I think that Fort Pickens is a very interesting fort. I think that Fort Pickens is very interesting because it was a fort that belonged to the Union soldiers, and the Fort was "right next door" to the Confederate Soldiers Fort. At the fort we learned about the cannons.
The biggest cannon bullets were 1,025 pounds each! I think that that will be the most stunning fact related to the union soldiers that I will ever hear. After we went to the fort we went to the beach. The beach was so beautiful because the sand was so white. Scientists think that the reason that the beach is so white is because of the Quartz Crystal.
A long time ago the Quartz Crystal was carried from the mountains down the water into the Gulf of Mexico. While it was being carried down the crystal was ground up, and when it beached it was really white sand. At the beach we went body surfing and we made sand castles.
My favorite part of being at the beach was when we were body surfing. I liked body surfing because the water was really cool and I liked it on top of the waves. Then we took a shower, ate dinner, and went to bed. I had one of the best days in the world.
