Entry By Katelyn
Today we went to the Crystal River to swim with the manatees!   First we drove for 1 hour and a half to the Crystal River.  Then we went on a bus that took us to the boat.   After that we boarded the boat and listened to the instructions.  Then we started to look for manatees.  The first Manatee that we saw was a tagged manatee with a two week old baby. Since the Manatee was tagged we could not touch it, but it was still really cool to see.  The next manatees that we saw were a pack of 7.   At first it seemed like the pack was on the move, but then the pack turned around right in front of us!  That was when the captain said that we could quietly go into the water.   It was a real bummer because the water was all cloudy, but it was cool feeling them.  It was sort of scary because I kept thinking that I would bump into the manatees. My favorite part of this encounter was touching the baby manatee because it was super cute.  The baby manatee felt really different from the other manatees because the baby felt like rough hands and the other adult manatees felt either soft or there would be hard bumps. The adult manatees either felt hard or soft because the older manatees go out into the ocean and barnacles and algae like to make their homes on the manatees back.   After our first encounter we went back to the boat.  We were in the water about 20 – 25 minutes.  Our second encounter with the same pod of manatees was near a dock.   When we got in the water this time we were in deeper water.  Since it was the same pack of manatees all the manatees were the same, but this time I got to touch different manatees.  One really cool thing was when I was touching one of the manatees with Madison, Emma, and Dad the manatee floated on its back and was swimming upside down with us.  The only reason that the manatee left us was because the manatee that we were touching went under the dock in front of us.  After that the captain told us to come back to the boat.  Then the captain told us that we would go to 3 Sisters Springs.   Once we got to 3 Sisters Spring I noticed that the water was so clear.  After that we saw another manatee by itself swimming in the clear water.  This time it was really cool because you could actually see it really good.  Then we went to the springs and saw a ton of beautiful fish.   The ground of the spring was so beautiful!  When I was swimming I felt like I was in paradise.  I was really mad when the Captain said that we had to go back.   After we went back to the boat we went to the dock and took off our wetsuits.  Then we drove back to the RV.  Next, we went back to the pool and went swimming.  We went swimming for about two hours.  Then we took a shower, ate dinner and went to bed.
