April 30 – by Emma

Today we woke up and ate breakfast. Then we went on a hike from our campground in Joshua Tree, but we got a little bit lost so we went back in the RV. On the hike we saw 2 animals. One of the animals was a jackrabbit the other was a bunny. Then we went to the visitor Center. I got my junior ranger book there. Then I went on a scenic drive. We stopped to hike through a Cholla Cactus Garden. There were sooo many! We saw only cactuses, except for 1 hummingbird. We saw a lot of cactuses in this valley area because there was plenty of water under the ground. Then we went to another stop where I climbed lots of rocks. I want rock climbing to be my hobby when I grow up.  I climbed on of the tallest rocks in the cluster. Then we went to a spot where we could eat lunch. While my dad was making lunch we went to play on the rocks again.  When lunch was ready we ate outside in a shady spot.  Next we went to look for a campsite. When we found a nice one, we went to play on the rocks again!  My sister Madison and I found a little hole in the rock that was really cool. Then we went on a hike to scull rock.  On the hike we had an ice cream. When we got to scull rock we climbed up in the eye, and I had trouble coming down. Then when we were back in the RV we went to a place where there would be a good sunset.  Before the sunset, Dad grilled dinner up on top of the mountain.  Then we watched the sunset.  The sunset was smoggy from Los Angeles, but still really cool. Then we went to our campsite, and went to bed.

May 1 – by Emma

Today I woke up, and watched the sunrise. We were at the Cholla Cactus Garden at the sunrise.  My dad had to be an early bird, and wake up at 5:00 A.M.   Dad hiked the trail to get some good pictures. On the hike he got stabbed by a cactus.   The park information says that it is the worst cactus to get pricked by because when it goes in there are barbs that prevent it from coming back out.  I had to go back to the RV to get some pliers for him because it was in so bad. On the hike back to him I almost got pricked by one also. My dad looked like he was in a LOT of pain!  On the way back he was limping. When we got back to the RV we had some breakfast. Then we went to a place where there is a hike were you can go up the mountain.  The mountain was Ryan Mountain.  That's the name of my cousin, Ryan Harrison!!!   On the way up, I felt really tired and we also saw lots of scat, but we didn’t see any animals.  When we got up to the top of the mountain it was really windy, but felt good on me. On the way down I felt like we walked much quicker. A lady told us she saw a big horn sheep, but we didn’t see it. When we got down to the RV we saw a jackrabbit. It was too quick to get a picture of so we went in the RV to have a yogurt. Then we drove to a place where you can climb rocks. My dad, Madison, and I went up on the rocks. Katelyn decided that she didn’t want to go up, so she climbed up a different rock but couldn’t get down. I got really high up the mountain, but my dad said we had to return to the bottom to get Katelyn.  I was a little unhappy because I could have gone all the way up to the top of the mountain.  After that we went down.  When we got to Katelyn we helped her get down the rock that she was stuck on.  Then we drove to my Mom’s cousin’s house to have dinner.  I did not know that we had other relatives that lived in San Diego!!  When we got to their house we had dinner, and it was very good.  I watched a really scary TV that spooked me when I went in the RV.  The dessert in their house was really good. When it was time to go, we said bye, and we went in the RV to drive to our campsite and go to bed.
