Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

(by Emma)

Today my Dad started driving at 5am while everyone was still sleeping.  We got to Grand Teton at 10am.  When we got there we went to the Visitor Center and got our Junior Ranger books.  We stayed there and went to a ranger program where we learned about the best things to do in the park.

Next, we drove to Jenny Lake.  There, we went down to the water and were catching minnows, and putting them in a gallon jug.  We caught 6 in total.  It was fun, and it was a very nice lake with a big mountain in the background.

We then drove to Johnson Lake and ate lunch and put on our bathing suits.  We went in the water and caught minnows again.  I was catching a lot!  My trick was to wait until the fish came up to the surface of the water and I scooped them up.  We had lots of fun doing this.

Finally, we continued driving north and we got to our campsite.  We went shopping for postcards, and looked around the campground area.  We ate dinner and went to a Ranger program to learn about how animals survive the winter.  I was called up on stage and had to be the bear.  We had lots of fun!

We went back to the RV and went to bed because tomorrow we will go to Yellowstone.

Xiu on

We only stayed at Grand Teton for a day. If we can do it over again, I think we should have stayed a couple of days. One could have biked and hiked. It really is a beautiful place. Ansel Adams took a number of pictures here and I think one of the most beautiful is his picture of the teton mountains reflected in the lake near oxbow bend. When you travel in an RV, your perspective changes. Before this trip, we've really just hopped on a plane and it got us from point a to point b really quickly. You loose certain perspective about space and time. When you are stuck in an RV that size of a room, driving miles upon miles across this land, you realize a couple of things. 1. how big and grand the us is. 2. you really don't need that much stuff at all. 3. you can have harmony if one is willing to compromise in small spaces.

We've lived in both Asia and Europe and I always thought I loved Europe or Asia more, but after 1 month with my family in an RV, I have come to appreciate America much more. In many affluent areas, you may get many people who have vacationed in Europe or other exotic places but not vacationed in the US much. I now would recommend so many beautiful places for people to visit in our back yards. America is beautiful and America is grand. We have so much to be proud of.
