Bruneau Dunes, Idaho

(Entry by Katelyn)

Today we went to the Bruneau sand dunes in Idaho.  I was really excited because I was going to climb one of the tallest sand dune in America.   It is very steep and a 470 foot climb.  Once I got started going up the dune I was so tired.  We were on the dune for about 3 hours.  It was very tiring because it was all uphill and in the sun.  I kept telling myself that I could do it one step at a time.

I was really excited when I eventually made it up because I looked back at what I did and saw how high we climbed.  When I got to the top and to the point where I could see the other side, I climbed across the top of the dunes until I reached the highest point. It was really scary because it was a peak and I kept thinking that I was going to fall.  Since it was really scary I went very slow and it took me 20 minutes.  Once I finally got to the top I threw my hands into the air because I was so happy.  After my Dan and Emma joined me, we all walked back to where we started at the top. I was really excited because I was going to run all the way down the dune.  When I ran down the dune I fell because I was going so fast and I couldn't stop.  When I got to the bottom I couldn't believe that I did it.  It was so much fun that I had to climb back up with Emma and my Dad to race back down the dune. Once we all did that we started to walk back to the RV for lunch.  I saw tons of ladybugs and grasshoppers in the sand on the way down.

When we finally got back we cleaned our feet and ate.  Then we drove for 3 hours to the Craters of the Moon National Monument.  We had dinner, took a shower, and went to bed.  I had a great day at the sand dunes!
