Crater Lake, Oregon (Day 1)

(by Katelyn)

Today we drove to Crater Lake in the morning.  I really liked Crater Lake because it was so big, blue, and beautiful.  However, there is not so much to do there besides look at the lake, so it can get boring after a while.  I learned that Crater Lake was formed after a huge volcanic eruption in which the volcano collapsed within itself forming this huge crater. Over many thousands of years, the lake was filled with rain and snow. Crater Lake if famous because it is the deepest lake in America, and some say it is also the cleanest.  A final thing that I learned is that another smaller eruption occurred which created a smaller volcano inside of the crate that we now call Wizard Island.

After I learned about the history of Crater Lake, we drove around the lake and stopped at several overlooks.  Later we drove to our campsite and rode bikes and fished.  I did not have a great day because I fell 2 times and got 5 cuts.  Later, my day got 1000x worse when Madison broke my special rainbow fishing pole.  I was sent to bed with bad thoughts, so I had a bad day.

Crater Lake, Oregon (Day 2)

(by Katelyn)

Today we woke-up and went to Crater Lake again.  Today we went on a hike down to the water.  The hike was very steep and windy, and took about 30 minutes to get all the way down.  Once we got to the bottom we went to feel the water.  It was a cold 40 degrees.  I told my dad that I wanted to jump in, but he said no.  I begged him until he finally said it was okay.

I was the first one to jump off the cliff into the water.  It was sooo cold when I landed!  Once I hit the water I was in shock from the temperature change.  However, I was so happy because I jumped into the deepest and cleanest lake in America.  After I did it, Madison and Emma followed me.  I jumped 6 more times after that.  The first 5 times I basically did the dame thing, and on the last one I did a head-first dive.  I felt so sick as I was falling to the water.  When I hit the water, my legs went too far, so it hurt the back of my legs.

After we were all done jumping, we had to climb the steep hill to get back to the RV.  We drove around the lake we had not seen, and went back to the Visitor Center to get our Junior Ranger badges.  We then started our drive out of Oregon and into Boise, Idaho.  I slept for much of the drive.  I had a great day!

Wow! It looks like you are having an amazing time. I have never seen water so blue in my life. What an experience! Pocopson misses your smiling faces.

The girls did not tell you that they asked me to walk back to the car to get their bathing suits and towels; we were not so well prepared. All the girls were not very patient waiting for mom so they all jumped in with their clothes. I was not happy... Well, Katelyn did not want to change out of her wet clothes after I got back (it was hard walk up the big hill). Madison apeased me by changing. And Emma decided to only jump once so she did not need her suit anymore. Next time, lesson learned is to be prepared and if your kids asked you to do something like go up the hill and get their clothes, don't!

After talking to my friend Susan, I have to write that the climb up to get the girls their stuff took about 45 minutes or so... it was a steep climb.
