Jamestown, North Dakota

(posted by Katelyn)

Today we woke up and ate breakfast.  Then we hung around Devils Lake.  Once we were ready to go, we drove to a museum in Jamestown, North Dakota.

At the museum we learned about Buffalo.  We also got to touch animal skin. In the museum I learned that there used to be millions of buffalo, but then they were hunted so much that there were only 60 buffaloes left.  I also learned that sometimes people used to kill the buffalo only to get their tongue, and they don't even worry about the body meat, the bones, or the skin!  After we were done in the museum we went outside to see the only 3 albino buffaloes in the world. The problem is that we only saw 2 out of the 3 because they are in a natural habitat and the third could not be found.  The final thing we did at the museum was to see the world largest sculpture of a buffalo.  It was huge!

After we were done in the museum we walked through a model of a western town in the 1800's.  We went into all kinds of buildings and rooms.   They had a post office, fire house, school, barber shop, bar, church, and dentist.  It was so funny because the price for a hair cut was 30 cents!

After the town we went to our campsite and settled in.  After we checked in we played on the playground while my dad made dinner.  We also borrowed some books out of the office.  For dinner we ate pasta salad, strawberries, and yogurt.  I liked dinner.   After dinner I read and then went to bed at 10:30pm.

Today we drove 120 miles and it was my turn to be the co-pilot.  The drive was about 2 hours.  My favorite part of the day was the buffalo museum, and my least favorite part of the day was the driving.  I had a great day!
