Today our trip begins!  After so much planning, I am still running around with so many last minute things to do.  I think it is impossible to have a relaxing last day.  I am thankful that I did plan as much as I did, or we would really be in trouble!

We originally planned to leave at 9am, but now we need to pick up Madison's bike at 10am.  In reality, we pulled out at about 10:45, which I guess is pretty good.  I had the girls climb up on the roof of the RV for the first time to capture a photo.  It was surprising to see Katelyn immediately climb up and walk to the side, while Emma was scared to even move!  Madison was somewhere in the middle, crawling along the top.  It is always curious to see how they each tackle a small adventure.  Anyway, we took some photos and climbed down.  Our goodbyes with Xiu were surprisingly not too emotional for the girls (or Xiu), and without tears.  The only crying came as we pulled out, and Katelyn cried for a minute.

As we set our, Madison started as the co-pilot.  It will be interesting to see the demand for this job as the trip progresses.  Madison does do an excellent job, and is very observant.  Katelyn and Emma sat on the bench and did word searches that Mrs. Kurey provided the night before.

For the first day, the girls behaved excellent.  It was over 5 hours of driving, and I expect some of the worst because we had to travel through the NYC area and over the GW bridge.  The girls all stayed occupied and slept a bit.  The biggest challenge I had was with the 2 in the back wanting to talk to me as I drove.  With the noise, it is very difficult to hear, and having a conversation is very distracting.  Thus, I told them that we would have to limit the communication while I drive, and that they can relay any questions to my co-pilot, which seemed to work well.

Toward the end of the trip, I let them watch a movie for about 30 minutes as a reward for their good behavior.  I will try to limit the movies, but today was so long and so boring with highway driving.  Overall, the trip went off fine.  The only traffic we had was in Connecticut, and the wind was gusting from the east.  Since we were on the Turnpike (95), there was not much excitement!

We finally arrived in Mystic, CT at 5:45pm.  After running around all morning and driving 260 miles, I was exhausted!  I really didn't sleep much the prior 2 nights either.  We pulled into the Mystic KOA and the girls were immediately off to play on a huge playground.  They had a huge 'bounce pillow', and they just went on and on forever!  What a great activity for them to end the day.  I cooked them pasta and cut cucumber since our food supplies were limited.

We eat, wrote in our journals, and got ready for bed.  I connected the computer, did some final research for our trip tomorrow, and Skyped with Xiu.  Skype worked great...what a tool!  By 11pm my eyes were closing and I had to go to sleep!

Our plan for tomorrow is to break camp mid-morning and go into the town of Mystic.  We will leave in the afternoon for Rhode Island, which is about 50 miles away.  We are driving along the Atlantic on Route 1, so I hope it will be a scenic drive.
